Berlin
Germany's favourite destination for city breaks
Most people will be familiar with the Brandenburg Gate topped by its triumphal chariot, the Victory Column and Charlottenburg Palace, but this lively metropolis is difficult to define - Berlin is many cities in one. Covering an area the size of Munich, Stuttgart and Frankfurt am Main put together, Berlin is an exciting conglomeration of very different districts, centres and suburbs, each with its own character. Berlin is a cosmopolitan city with a turbulent past.
Districts
Berlin's twelve administrative districts sometimes seem like separate small towns. Each district has its own charm and special appeal and you are just as likely to encounter breathtaking natural scenery and tranquil areas as a truly cosmopolitan atmosphere. This is what makes Germany's largest city so remarkable.
Highlights
Visitors to Berlin are spoilt for choice when it comes to its incredible number of tourist attractions. The Reichstag, Museum Island, Charlottenburg Palace and Potsdamer Platz are just some of the German capital's fantastically varied range of world-class sights.
