Suggested excursions

Heligoland, Copyright E. Fuchs-Hauffen
Riverboats leave St. Martin's quay on the Schlachte Embankment for tours on the River Weser. Or why not charter the "Jan von Moor" peat boat and enjoy a leisurely excursion with friends to the artists' village of Worpswede?

Worpswede
The Worpswede artists' village lies in the Hamm marshes in an area known as "Devil's Moor" (Teufelsmoor) . Since the end of the 19th century the Worpswede moor village has developed into an artists' colony. Even today, Worpswede still attracts artists and artisans who live and work in the village and show their works in exhibitions and galleries there.

Heligoland
Germany's most distant North Sea island, Heligoland, has some breathtakingly beautiful scenery: the Dune with its lovely sandy beaches, "long Anna", the red sandstone cliffs just off the coast and Lummenfelsen (guillemot cliffs), a breeding paradise for sea birds. From April to October there are daily mini-cruises from Bremerhaven to Heligoland.

Maritime past in Vegesack
Take a detour down the River Weser to the annual Vegesacker Harbour Festival in June and discover a spectacular maritime event set against an impressive backdrop. The training ship 'Deutschland', the Bremen 9 police boat and many other boats and ships take part in the festival. Every August, bands and choirs from all over the world gather for the Maritime Festival where they perform sea-songs and shanties.
