Art & culture
Chemnitz is a city with a progressive approach to the arts. A wealth of cultural attractions together with museums full of fascinating exhibits make it a paradise for art enthusiasts. Henry van de Velde Museum
Villa Esche was designed by the Belgian artist Henry van de Velde and built in 1903. One of the most outstanding architectural achievements in Chemnitz, it houses the first Henry van de Velde Museum in Germany and serves as a forum for business, art and culture. The art collection includes exhibits of furniture, ceramics, porcelain and other objects hand-crafted by the artist. King Albert Museum
The art collections in the prestigious King Albert Museum include works by expressionist artists, paintings by the Dresden Romantics, German post-war art and works by famous sculptors. Schlossberg Museum
The Schlossberg Museum combines the Middle Ages with the modern day, and history with the present, all under one roof. The exhibits give a comprehensive view of the city's development from its origins right up to the present day. The museum is located on Schlossberg (Castle Hill), where the city was founded in the 12th century.
