Museums
The Pomeranian State Museum brings the history and culture of the region to life. The museum harbour has more than 40 lovingly restored historical boats that are still seaworthy. You can go on board and learn about the history of sailing. Visitors can also marvel at the academic achievements and curiosities held in the archives of Ernst Moritz Arndt University. Pomeranian State Museum
The unconventional State Museum contains exhibits from around 12,000 years of Pomeranian history in its six buildings and four themed exterior areas. The past is brought to life in an interactive way throughout the museum and its grounds, in the exhibits on geology and the region's history as well as the Picture Gallery which displays paintings by Caspar Friedrich and van Gogh. Museum Harbour
In the museum harbour in the village of Wieck you can marvel at more than 40 decommissioned and restored boats, such as Zeesboote (sail boats used for fishing), former fishing trawlers, cargo boats, harbour launches, a 26 metre deep sea cutter, some classic yachts and several other sail boats. Also worth seeing is the brick Gothic Fangenturm (prison tower) which was built in 1329 and used to form part of the town walls. Today it is used by the harbour master. University Museums and Archives
Greifswald university has collected some fascinating items and curiosities during its 550 years. It manages six museums and 17 scientific archives from diverse subject areas. A visit to the anatomical collection, the zoological museum or the physics collection is not only of interest to academics.
