Nature & greenery
Halle is a leafy town with a number of parks and gardens where both visitors and locals can relax and enjoy a variety of leisure activities. There is also a wealth of water in the heart of the town, making it an ideal destination for water sports enthusiasts too. Botanical Gardens
Halle University's botanical gardens were created in 1698 for research into therapeutic plants. Over time, they have been extended and redesigned a number of times, and now cover an area of 4.5 hectares. The gardens contain around 12,000 different types of plant, divided into bio-geographical sections, which visitors can admire either outside or in the conservatories. Banks of the river Saale
The river Saale runs for around 25 kilometres through Halle, and a number of water sports and other leisure activities can be enjoyed along its banks. Visitors can explore the town and the surrounding area from the water or enjoy the scenery along the riverbanks. Reichardt's Garden
The musician Johann Friedrich Reichardt created this garden at the end of the 18th century based on Rousseau's ideas on getting "back to nature" and the design of the English Gardens in Wörlitz. The three-hectare municipal park is under a preservation order and is home to a number of rare ancient trees.
