The Saar Spectacular is Germany's largest event on the theme of water and water sports. A varied programme awash with competitions, promotions and attractions guarantees a whole host of fun and entertainment.

Maritime flair by the river
This two-day water spectacular has so much to offer, such as jet-ski championships, dragon boat races, amphibian vehicle shows, river police practice manoeuvres, shanty choirs, diving courses for beginners and special events for kids. There really is something for everyone!

Saarbrücken's three prettiest squares are Schlossplatz, Ludwigsplatz and St. Johanner Markt surrounded by the narrow lanes of the old town. The palace, with its avant-garde centrepiece, is a blend of baroque and modern styles and a lively venue for cultural events. Every Sunday in summer open-air concerts are held in the palace garden. Ludwigskirche church is considered to be one of the most beautiful Protestant baroque churches in Germany.

Saarbrücken has a wide variety of museums. The Saarland Museum with its Old Collection and Modern Gallery features some important 20th century works. The State Gallery which focuses on works by Saarland artists and those working in the region, and the Civic Gallery with its kaleidoscope of contemporary art and performance art, are both worth visiting.
