Museums
In and around Schwetzingen there are countless ways to quench your thirst for knowledge. There is a wide variety of museums in and around the town, including a museum on the history of Schwetzingen, one on the Palatinate region as a whole and the German Pharmacy Museum. Karl Wörn House
With an interesting location in the former management building of the Bassermann canning factory, this museum documents the history of Schwetzingen from when it was founded to the present day. For example, the Karl Wörn House tells the story of how the Upper Rhine region developed and displays exhibits from Schwetzingen's golden age as the summer residence of the Palatinate Electors as well as furniture from townspeople's homes. If you want to find out more about Schwetzingen and its history, a visit to this museum is not to be missed. Historical Museum of the Palatinate, Speyer
A visit to what is one of the most popular cultural-historical museums in Germany is highly recommended. With its six permanent collections and regular special exhibitions, the museum documents the history of art and culture in the town of Speyer and the Palatinate from the Stone Age to the 20th Century. The museum houses more than 900,000 exhibits, most of which are originals from their respective eras. Inside, a "Museum for Young People" has been opened, providing a great interactive learning experience for the whole family. German Pharmacy Museum in Heidelberg
Situated in Heidelberg Castle, this museum is divided into three themed areas: "the history of the pharmacy and the pharmaceutical profession", "medicines" and "the pharmacy as a workplace". Using representative exhibits these areas tell the story of the pharmacy from ancient times to the present day. Among other things the museum boasts a replica of a Biedermeier pharmacy as well as a number of apothecary's stalls from different eras, while an abundance of jars and glasses containing "wonder cures" show how medicine has developed through the ages.
