The region surrounding Schwetzingen is ideal for a number of outdoor activities, such as climbing, cycling and walking, with the Odenwald and Palatinate forests especially good for getting out and stretching your legs. As you might expect, there are plenty of sights and attractions in the region. Why not try the cycle route that takes in three UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites? Palatinate Route
Covering 31 kilometres, this route through the middle of the beautiful Palatinate takes you from Heidelberg, via Schwetzingen to Speyer. Away from busy main roads, the route is predominantly flat with mainly asphalt paths. It's ideal for families with children, and with a little help from the local public transport network, can easily be managed in one day. World Cultural Heritage Cycle Route
This route runs from Lorsch to Maulbronn Monastery Complex and has a standardised system of signposts. An 18 kilometre tour from Schwetzingen to Speyer makes up one stage of the route, while another takes you along the banks of the Rhine, where you can enjoy some spectacular views if the weather is good. Palatinate Forest and Odenwald Forest
With its favourable location between the Palatinate and Odenwald forests, Schwetzingen is an ideal base for walking and enjoying the outdoors. The Palatinate Forest nature reserve, located right on the Wine Route, is the largest contiguous area of forest in Germany, and it boasts a number of sights and attractions along with its fantastic terrain for climbing and walking. Situated between the Rhine, Main and Neckar rivers, the Odenwald forest is perfect for walking, climbing, downhill mountain biking and lots more besides.
