Nature & greenery
You can enjoy a whole host of leisure activities in Duisburg and the surrounding area including swimming, hiking, jogging, cycling or simply taking a leisurely walk. The Sechs-Seen-Platte with its lakes is a highly popular recreation area and the Chinese Garden at Duisburg Zoo offers visitors the opportunity to relax in Asian-style surroundings. Sechs-Seen-Platte
The largest recreation area in the Duisburg area is only a few kilometres from the city centre. The 258-hectare area of forest has six lakes, some of which are connected, making it an ideal destination for water sports and other leisure activities. It offers an 18-km network of footpaths and almost 160 hectares of water for all types of water sports. Chinese Garden
The Chinese Garden, donated by Duisburg's twin city Wuhan, is part of Duisburg Zoo. Apart from introducing Asian animals, its aim is to highlight the fine art of Asian horticulture and its associations with poetry and philosophy. With the clever use of colour and architectural elements, buildings such as the "Hall of Happiness" have been designed to blend in harmoniously with the surrounding flora and fauna. Municipal Forest
Situated in the east of the city, the municipal forest runs along the edge of the Baerler Busch recreation area and the neighbouring town of Mühlheim. The Entenfang lake at the southern tip of the park is particularly popular with joggers, cyclists and walkers. There is also a woodland trail with 45 information panels telling visitors all there is to know about the forest.
