The zoo is one of the most attractive landscaped zoos in Europe. Delightful public gardens from the 17th and 18th centuries. The baroque gardens contain the Four Seasons fountain, the Arion fountain, the sculptures "Die Jugend" (Youth), "Das Laster" (The Vice) and "Die Zwerggrotesken" (The Dwarf Grotesques) and a remarkable sundial. The gardens were once home to 50 different varieties of citrus plants. The Hesperides gardens are named after the Hesperides (daughters of Hesperos), who guarded the golden apples in Greek mythology.
