Suggested excursions
Thanks to its central location in the Upper Bavarian region, Rosenheim is well placed for a variety of excursions. One of the most popular local destinations is Lake Chiemsee, whose beauty attracts millions of visitors every year. Equally impressive is the view from the top of Mount Wendelstein. Ruhpolding leisure park, where fun and games are top of the agenda, is in a tasteful setting surrounded by beautiful scenery. Lake Chiemsee
Lake Chiemsee, also affectionately known as "Bavaria's sea", is one of the most beautiful lakes in the foothills of the Alps. Steamboats offer trips around the lake, calling at various locations including Fraueninsel and Herreninsel islands. The main attraction on Herreninsel is King Ludwig II's famous palace. In contrast to its splendour and magnificence, the appeal of Fraueninsel lies in its rural, idyllic feel and its cultural treasures. Fraueninsel's focal point is the abbey, including the minster and the museum. Mount Wendelstein
Even if you're tempted to let the mountain railway take the strain, you really should resist the temptation and try walking to the top of the mountain. The footpath is one of the most beautiful in the region and is manageable for most. It takes you past chapels, mountain pastures and forests and, to spur you on, there are wonderful views of the Inn valley. Ruhpolding leisure park
For many years Ruhpolding leisure park has been offering fun and games for all the family. Idyllically set in the Chiemgau mountains, it has a wide range of play and leisure attractions including fairytale houses with fairytale characters, an adventure playground, a park railway and slides. Special attractions include a thrilling summer toboggan run and a water play garden.
