The Richard Wagner Festival has been the highlight of Bayreuth's cultural scene for more than 125 years. The Festival Hall is worthy of a visit even outside festival times. As well as being a centre for education and research, the Africa Centre is also a museum, presenting art and culture from third-world countries to a wider public. Following the restoration of the Old Town Hall at the heart of the historical town centre, Bayreuth now has a new Art Museum which also houses the British American Tobacco (B.A.T.) Tobacco Museum. There are several exhibitions each year, with exhibits loaned from the collections of various institutes. The focus is on 20th century printed works.
