In May Jena's museums and galleries open their doors for one whole night in order to take night owls on a journey of discovery. Visitors can expect a varied program of activities, with a different theme each year, and refreshments are also available. This is a very special way to experience what Jena has to offer.
The Old Town Festival is held in the 37th week of the year and is Jena's largest and most popular public festival. With an eclectic mixture of entertainment, the festival stretches throughout the old town - in and around Eichplatz square, the medieval market square, town hall square, Holzmarkt square and Kollegienhof courtyard. There is also a wide range of food and drink on offer, ranging from grilled sausages and traditional Thuringian dumplings to "Jenaer Schellenbier", a strong dark beer.
The experimental "Imaginata" project is housed in the former Jena-Nord electrical substation. Faithful to its motto "Imagination is more important than knowledge", this unconventional interactive museum offers a whole host of experimental installations for you to marvel at, play with and contemplate. Every year Imaginata focuses on a particular subject with various exhibitions, lectures, concerts, festivals and much more.
