Places of interest
Giengen an der Brenz, nestling in the broad valley of the river Brenz, is full of historical atmosphere. Its pretty, harmonious old quarter is the site of one of the most beautiful attractions of this old Hohenstaufen town: the Stadtkirche (town church). Town church
Giengen's most famous landmark is the town church (Stadtkirche), with its two contrasting towers. The Blasturm (trumpet tower), once part of the town's fortifications, was built in a renaissance style, whereas the Glockenturm (bell tower) is baroque. The contrast between the two towers was retained when the church was rebuilt after a major fire in 1634. Obervation tower
The observation tower on Schiessberg hill in Giengen is a favourite destination for walkers and children alike. Construction of this 15-metre tower began in 1902; Italian construction workers provided the labour. In the tower's walls, a record of the cost of the tower and the names of its sponsors is set in stone.
