A pleasant stroll along more than a kilometre of shops. Rummage around in antique shops and second-hand book stores, visit an art gallery or browse through bookshops. Be inspired by trendy, young boutiques, track down designer labels or explore the department stores. Sniff out the Christmas atmosphere of the Käthe Wohlfahrt shop or buy yourself a cuckoo clock, and top it all off with a glass of Heidelberg wine in one of the student bars.

The world-famous Heidelberg Castle towers above the old quarter. Writers, poets and thinkers have strolled along the Philosophers' Walk and enjoyed the idyllic views over the town. The past is brought to life in the old quarter; ancient and modern treasures are just waiting to be discovered in its alleyways.

Heidelberg offers its visitors a diverse programme of exhibitions and more than 20 museums and institutions. One very special museum is the German Pharmacy Museum. Visitors can discover the history, art and culture of the Palatinate region in the Palatinate Museum. Being a university town, Heidelberg also has a university museum with displays relating the history of Germany's oldest seat of learning.
