Museums
The museums in Oberhausen reflect the town's industrial heritage. The Rhenish Industrial Museum provides information on more than 150 years of iron and steel-making history, while the Eisenheim housing estate illustrates the life and work of the people who lived there. The Bunker Museum is dedicated to aerial warfare and bunker construction in the Second World War, during which Oberhausen was a popular target for attack because of its industrial importance in the Ruhr area. Rhenish Industrial Museum
The Rhenish Industrial Museum in Oberhausen is housed in a former rolling hall of the Altenberg zinc mill. It has nine exhibition units depicting 150 years of iron and steel-making history on the Rhine and Ruhr rivers, each focusing on different themes such as the origins of the iron and steel industry, technical developments, working conditions and much more. Bunker Museum
This is a very special museum housed in a converted "high-rise bunker" from the Second World War. It has 300 square metres of exhibition space dedicated to the history of aerial warfare and bunker construction. The interior of the bunker has been left unchanged. Eisenheim Housing Estate
The Eisenheim housing estate is part of the Rhenish Industrial Museum in Oberhausen. Devoted to the industrial heritage of the Ruhr area, the museum focuses on the establishment and development of the estate. The streets still lined with 39 of the original semi-detached houses offer a good insight into the way the region's steelworkers lived.
