Nature & greenery
Set in the nature reserve of the Spessart hills and right next to the Bergstrasse region and Oldenwald forest, Wertheim and its surroundings offers everything that a nature lover could wish for. Romantic palaces and mysterious ruins, densely wooded areas and pretty rivers. Whether you're exploring the region on foot, by bike or by boat it will always be a memorable experience. Bergstrasse-Odenwald forest nature reserve
Bordered by the Rhine, Main and Neckar rivers the Bergstrasse-Odenwald forest nature reserve covers an area of 3,200 square kilometres. Whilst the northern part is characterised by orchards and in the spring is covered in a stunning sea of blossom, the southern part is a first-class wine producing region. Travelling through the nature reserve on foot or by bike you will come across numerous medieval towns, castles and palaces. A boat trip through the region is particularly delightful. Spessart hills nature reserve
The Spessart hills are one of the most densely wooded uplands in Germany, with little villages of pretty half-timbered houses and narrow alleyways at its heart. You can get close to nature by going on long hikes through dense woodland or by cycling along extensive trails. If you look closely you can even spot native deer, wild boar and salmon.
