Baroque jewel in a picturebook setting
Dwarfed by Mount Watzmann, on a spit of land in the emerald-green waters of Lake Königssee, this pilgrimage church has a picture-postcard setting. During the crossing to the church the ship's captain blows his trumpet to demonstrate the famous Lake Königssee echo at all other times the area is a haven of peace and quiet. The exterior of the baroque church is characterised by its red domes and onion spires, while the layout of the interior mirrors that of Salzburg Cathedral. The church also offers an amazing view of the eastern side of Mount Watzmann.
