Nature & greenery
Set in beautiful countryside, Hechingen offers plenty of opportunities for hiking and cycling. The Swabian Alb has one of the most beautiful walks in Germany which leads past the legendary church of Maria Zell up to Mount Raichberg and along the Albtrauf, the north-westerly edge of the Swabian Alb, to Mount Blasenberg and Mount Hundsrücken. The Black Forest with its high peaks and wild, romantic gorges is also close by. Swabian Alb
Broad plains, light deciduous forests and sparse juniper scrubs are characteristic of the Swabian Alb, but so are mysterious caves with fantastic underground systems and lofty hilltops. On a clear day you can enjoy views of the Black Forest and even the Alps. Old-established towns alternate with sleepy villages and the magnificent scenery is dotted with recreation areas, historical places of interest and geological attractions. Majestic castles and picturesque churches with views across the plateau are also prominent features of the region. Black Forest
The Black Forest is one of the most famous and popular regions in Germany. Powdery pistes in the winter, blossom-laden fruit trees in spring, refreshing lakes in the heat of summer and a blaze of colour in the autumn. The Black Forest is home to a number of internationally renowned towns and attractions, such as Calw, the birthplace of the author Herman Hesse, Maulbronn Monastery Complex, a UNESCO World Heritage site, Baden Baden, famous for its spa and casino, as well as charming university towns such as Tübingen and Freiburg. This region can be visited all year round and boasts the highest concentration of spas, health resorts and wellness hotels in Germany. Germany's biggest theme park, the Europa-Park Rust, is also in the Black Forest.
