Nature & greenery

Villa Borg's gardens convey an impression of what gardening meant for the Romans. The courtyard garden, the herb garden, the "rose room" and the fruit, vegetable and flower gardens are all essential to the ambience of the reconstructed villa grounds. The entrance area is divided into four squares planted with double rows of box. In the centre is a light-coloured sandstone water feature with a fountain in the middle.
The Saar Bow is a remarkable natural feature and one of the Saarland's most beautiful scenes - a deep-set meander where the river has carved its course through the hard rock strata between Merzig and Saarburg. The Cloef observation point in Orscholz, near Mettlach, offers panoramic views of the Bow and there are well-maintained cycling and walking trails around it too. The Saar Bow can also be appreciated at close hand from a pleasure boat.
