A stunning legacy of emperors past
Quedlinburg boasts a wealth medieval architecture and is cradle of the German imperial dynasty. Listed as a world cultural heritage site by UNESCO, the old quarter is a magnificent sight to behold with more than 1,300 picturesque timber-framed houses. The Collegiate Church of St. Servatius on Schlossberg hill can be seen for miles around. A masterpiece of Romanesque architecture, it houses a priceless collection of church treasures from the Middle Ages. The first German emperor Heinrich I and his wife Mathilde are both buried in the crypt.
