An inspiration for the great German poets
Classical Weimar is a unique legacy of the cultural epoch that reached its peak around 1800. 22 historical houses and literary sites are reminders of the heyday of Weimar Classicism, including the Goethe National Museum run by the Weimar Classics Foundation, Goethe's house and summer house, Schiller's House, the royal vault in the historical cemetery, Liszt's Weimar residence and the Nietzsche Archive, which has an art nouveau interior by Henry van de Velde. A number of palaces and gardens in and around the town, such as Ettersburg Palace and the Dornburg Palaces, are also part of this cultural heritage.
