Bonn
Birthplace of Beethoven
Today, Bonn is a vibrant university city, a cultural centre that hosts prestigious concerts and exhibitions, a centre for technologies of the future and the headquarters for several United Nations organisations. People in and around Bonn really know how to enjoy the good things in life. In the summer they head for the wine bars along the Rhine to enjoy the views of the Siebengebirge hills where Riesling wines are produced.
Places of interest
Beethoven House has the world's most extensive collection of Beethoven exhibits and attracts large numbers of visitors every year. The old quarter has impressive buildings on much-admired squares: the rococo-style Old Town Hall on Marktplatz (market square), the bronze Beethoven statue on Münsterplatz (minster square) and the beautiful Romanesque minster to name but a few. Poppelsdorf Palace is a magnificent former Electors' residence in the south of the city.
Museums
Bonn boasts a wealth of outstanding museums. Don't miss the museum mile near the government quarter, with the two great art museums - the Federal Exhibition Hall and the Bonn Art Museum. The German Museum and the House of History are also outstanding.
