The Dresden State Orchestra is one of the oldest and most traditional orchestras in the world, and is believed to be the only one to have been together for an uninterrupted four and a half centuries. Throughout this time, it has always been one of the world's leading orchestras. Illustrious kapellmeisters and internationally acclaimed instrumentalists have made this former court orchestra, now the State Orchestra of Saxony, the great institution it is.
The concert orchestra plays more than 80 concerts in Dresden every year and is thus a very influential part of the city's cultural scene. The orchestra is a product of Dresden's 450 year old tradition of civic music, and its concerts are highly popular with locals and visitors alike. The Philharmonic has played all over Europe, as well as in China, Japan, Israel, South America and the USA.
The Dresden Kreuzchor boys' choir is one of the world's oldest and most celebrated boys choirs. It usually performs as a mixed men and boys choir.
