Potsdam
Town of palaces and parks
Potsdam's main attractions, its palaces and parks, bear witness to the days when Potsdam was the summer residence of the Prussian kings. Sanssouci Palace and Park, built by Frederick the Great, are the crowning glory in this magnificent collection. Today, the town's reputation as a lively centre of culture and learning is enhanced by the fascinating architecture of its historical districts - the Dutch quarter, the Russian colony of Alexandrovka and the exclusive residential area of Babelsberg - and the many events staged in Potsdam's palaces.
Places of interest
Potsdam's palaces and gardens are among the most beautiful places to visit. Palaces such as Sanssouci and Babelsberg, Cecilienhof and the New Palace are striking reminders of Potsdam's role in German history. The historical districts such as the Russian colony of Alexandrovka, the weavers' quarter and the Dutch quarter give Potsdam a real European feel.
Museums
Potsdam's museum scene is dominated by the Prussian royal palaces. The House of Brandenburg and Prussian History and the Potsdam Museum provide insights into the history of Prussia and Potsdam. The Film Museum's collection documents the history of the Babelsberg film studios UFA and DEFA.
