Art & culture
Potsdam has a number of outstanding museums, including the House of Brandenburg and Prussian History where visitors can find out all about the region. The Film Museum next to Babelsberg Film Park has lots of fascinating information about the history of the Babelsberg film studio. Potsdam Nikolaisaal
The Nikolaisaal is Potsdam's concert hall and events centre. The futuristic interior design of the building creates a fascinating tension with the historical facade and the restored baroque town centre. The remarkable acoustics of the Great Hall and the 1920s atmosphere of the spacious events foyer captivate audiences who come to see both classic and contemporary works performed here. Hans Otto Theatre
The Hans Otto Theatre - the Potsdam theatre - presents a wide-ranging repertoire from classics to contemporary works in a variety of venues. As well as the theatre at Am Alten Markt, a number of other historical venues such as the palace theatre in the New Palace, Sanssouci Orangery, Lichtenau Palace and the French Church provide stages for occasional productions. Schiffbauergasse ("Shipwrights' Alley")
Schiffbauergasse is home to numerous cultural institutions, associations and organisations. By making this their base they have helped to transform the site itself and have spawned further cultural development. The Hans Otto Theatre, Das Waschhaus Potsdam ("The Wash House") - a multi-genre arts and culture centre - the "fabrik" Potsdam theatre - a not-for-profit association which focuses on contemporary dance, and the international theatre and theatre education centre T-Werk have all become established here.
