German Art

Light Cocoon by André Heller at the RWE Park, Copyright Ruhrgebiet Tourismus GmbH
Germany's art has been shaped by regional, European and international influences. Leading figures of great German art tradition include the medieval painter Albrecht Dürer and the German Romanticism artist Carl Spitzweg. In the early 20th century, the expressionist works of Franz Marc as well as urban images by Max Beckmann formed the basis for the high esteem in which German expressionism is held around the world. Berlin, the former leading center of expressionism, now shares this role with Munich, Hamburg, Cologne, Duesseldorf and Frankfurt. Today, the Pinakothek art galleries in Munich and the museums along the banks of River Main in Frankfurt are always worth a visit for all art lovers as are some of the world's most important art fairs, Art Cologne and Art Forum, Berlin.

Bavaria, the land of music and culture, is where diversity is the conductor.

Bavaria is renowned worldwide as a cultural region hosting cities brimming with cultural sights, witnesses of centuries past and the land of fairytale kings and castles, of innumerable churches and monasteries. Every location presents itself as a scenario for an event, be it an open-air concert in a high fortress courtyard, in the overwhelming majesty of a Baroque basilica or in one of the famous palaces of King Ludwig II.
