Built for the future
Frankfurt: Skyline
Frankfurt is the only European city with a heart of skyscrapers. Those who are lucky enough to come in by plane early in the evening see one of the most impressive cityscapes of Germany in its most spectacular aspect. The ballet of the high rises stands out delicately against the Taunus mountain ranges in the violet light of the setting sun. Gracious constructions made from steel and glass babbled with crowns and triangle peaks, designed by internationally renowned architects like Sir Norman Foster or Helmut Jahn. At present about one hundred skyscrapers form the Frankfurt skyline, with some of them rising more than 300 metres up into the sky. The bulk of these business towers concentrates in the banking district between the old opera and the main station. Some of them have shops and restaurants. Those who don't suffer from vertigo find a lookout platform on the "Maintower", more than 200 m above city level.
