Best known as the charming yet bustling home of the Oktoberfest, Munich also has some of the most famous churches in Germany. The Late Gothic Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche), with its famous domed spires that can be seen from miles away, is one of Munich's best-known landmarks. Underneath the choir, the graves of many Bavarian kings may be found, including the famous Ludwig the Bavarian of the Holy Roman Empire. The Theatinerkirche St. Kajetan, a basilica built in the Italianate High Baroque style, has a gloriously ornate facade. It was built by the aristocrat Henriette Adelaide after her prayer for a successor was answered after long years of childlessness. The Asam Church (Asam-Kirche) was endowed and built by the Brothers Asam, pioneering artists of the Rococo period.
