St. Wendel

The Christmas market in St. Wendel is no longer the well kept secret it used to be. More than 100 delightful little wooden huts offer unusual hand-made items and a whole host of surprises. The oriental market adds a touch of romance and mystery to proceedings. Every afternoon, the Three Wise Men’s caravan of camels makes its way to the stable at Bethlehem in the company of jesters and fire-eaters. Here, actors in bright, colourful costumes re-enact the story of Mary and Joseph. Camels, falcons, wolfhounds and a wonderfully decorated stage help bring this ancient tale to life. Other attractions include: a giant Christmas pyramid, a gnomes’ forest (home to 200 of these pointy-hatted, cheeky chappies), a medieval craft market, a mansized nutcracker, traditional Erzgebirge products and a toboggan run with real Alpine snow.
