Uelzen

Uelzen's festively illuminated town centre is a magical place to be at Christmas. There's so much to discover at a variety of locations: the Christmas market on Kirchplatz square, the “Old German” Christmas village at the Lüneburg Gate (with live animals), the Nativity scene in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, the fairytale dioramas along Marktstrasse and concerts in St. Mary's Church, from organ recitals and gospel to Bach's Christmas Oratorio. The windows of the old town hall are also transformed into the world's largest Advent calendar courtesy of the acclaimed German artist, Màra. Finally, “mycity on ice” offers a genuine slice of winter fun at the huge rink on Herzogenplatz square.
