Schwerin's Christmas market is centred around the market square with its handsome brick-built cathedral and other historical squares in the old quarter. Christmas just doesn't get any more magical than this, with festive illuminations along the narrow little lanes, medieval houses with lovingly created window displays, and the aroma of roasted almonds and glühwein wafting through the air. The numerous attractions that put smiles on children's faces include a large toboggan run on the southern shore of Pfaffenteich lake, an ice rink, a petting zoo and the life-size polar bear band. Seasonal cheer can also be found at the exhibition of Nativity scenes.
