Hannover has no fewer than three markets to get you in the festive spirit. Set in the old quarter and around Marktkirche church, the traditional Christmas market has 150 stalls for browsing and eating. Journey back to a fascinating medieval age of glassblowers, potters and candlemakers at the historical Christmas village. For specialities from Finland, head to Ballhofplatz square for the Finnish Christmas village, which has a charm all of its own.
