Beautiful Altmarkt square with its historical town houses and the old town hall provides the setting for the festively illuminated Christmas market in Plauen. The enormous Christmas pyramid and the huge Christmas tree exude a magical atmosphere, heightened by a programme of seasonal entertainment on stage. Or head to neighbouring Klostermarkt square to see the 'moss man' festival, an unusual yuletide tradition. Climb the 230 steps to the top of the town hall tower for panoramic views of the town.
