Esslingen

The centre of Esslingen - from the town hall to Hafenmarkt square - is transformed into a historical winter wonderland for the festive season. Esslingen's is one of the most exciting Christmas markets in Germany, with more than 180 stalls. There is also a medieval market, where musicians, bards, entertainers and other travelling folk put on a fabulous historical spectacle alongside blacksmiths, ropemakers, glassblowers, printers and felters. Against a backdrop of half-timbered houses, The wide range of entertainment includes fire jugglers, a torchlit procession to the castle, the ropemakers day, falconry at the castle and the historical dance festival. Everywhere people are singing and having fun. But watch out, the jesters never miss an opportunity to play a prank and the peddlers might beg you for alms - discover history brought to life with plenty of excitement and surprises in store.
