Wittenberg's Christmas market has an inimitable setting on the market square, framed by impressive town houses and the church where Luther used to preach, which also has a stunning winged altar by Lucas Cranach the Elder. The town's Christmas courtyards have many a surprise in store amid delightful surroundings. Stroll through the festively decorated old town and enjoy the lights, sounds and smells of Christmas, including the unmistakable aromas of glühwein and roasted almonds. Not to be missed is the Martin Luther Nativity play on 19 December 2021 at the Church of St. Mary, where the great reformer delivered his sermons.
