The Christmas market's 90 lovingly furnished wooden booths blend in harmoniously with the old quarter's unique green sandstone ensemble, the only one of its kind in the world. It's hard to imagine a more beautiful setting than the market square, the cathedral, St. Peter's Church and the lovely rows of half-timbered houses in between. There is a wide variety of seasonal art and crafts on offer, with Christmas music from the stage and a diverse programme of entertainment rounding off the enchanting atmosphere. Artist Fritz Risken has Nativity scenes from around the world on display at his studio in Brunstein chapel, and tourist information guides will be happy to take you on a culinary journey of discovery around the Christmas market. Children can look forward to horse-drawn carriage rides, and the Advent bakery where the Christmas Angel opens a new window of the Advent calender every day. In the evening, a trumpeter marks the end of the day's proceedings.
