The history of Leipzig's Christmas market goes all the way back to 1767. It is one of the largest and most beautiful in Germany, with around 250 stalls on the city's historical market square. Attractions include the fairytale forest, the Old Leipzig medieval market and the world's largest free-standing Advent calendar. Festive Erzgebirge traditions are given a new lease of life during the Grand Miners' Parade and there is plenty of other seasonal entertainment to enjoy in the form of daily trumpet fanfares, Christmas concerts by St. Thomas's choir, and performances of Bach's Christmas Oratorio in the city's churches.
