Uelzen's festively illuminated town centre is a magical place to be at Christmas. There's so much to discover in a variety of locations: the Christmas market on Kirchplatz square, the 'Old German' Christmas village at the Lüneburg Gate (with live animals), the Nativity scene in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit, the fairytale dioramas along Marktstrasse, the concerts in St. Mary's Church - from organ recitals and gospel to Bach's Christmas Oratorio - and the old town hall, which the artist MÀRA transforms into the world's largest Advent calendar. Finally, 'mycity on ice' offers a genuine slice of winter fun at the huge rink on Herzogenplatz square.
