The centre of Esslingen - from the town hall to Hafenmarkt square - is transformed into a historical winter wonderland for Christmas. Against a backdrop of half-timbered façades, travelling folk such as entertainers, merchants and craftsmen put on a fantastic medieval spectacle. Marvel at fire jugglers, superbly costumed artistes from La Compagnie Entr’act and the torchlight procession for Winter solstice. Enjoy nailbiting thrills at the high-rope acrobatics or an oldfashioned pampering in the medieval bath house. Just as they would have done hundreds of years ago, market traders ply handcrafted goods and serve medieval-style kebabs, skewers of barbecued pork, wild ox, hot berry wine and sweet honey mead.
