Wittenberg’s Christmas market has a setting that is second to none: it takes place on the market square framed by eye-catching town houses and the church where Luther once preached, which has a stunning winged altar by Lucas Cranach the Elder. The town’s Christmas courtyards have many a surprise in store amid delightful surroundings. Stroll through the festively decorated old town and enjoy the lights, sounds and smells of Christmas, including the unmistakable aromas of glühwein and roasted almonds. Notplay on 21 Dec 2021 at the Church of St. Mary, where the great reformer delivered his sermons. to be missed is the Martin Luther Nativity
