Christmas Markets


Rostock

Twinkling fairy lights turn Rostock’s historical town centre into one of the largest and prettiest Christmas markets in northern Germany. It all begins when Father Christmas arrives by boat in the harbour. Stalls and festive wooden huts extend from Neuer Markt square to the Fishermen’s Bastion, surrounded by the brick-built churches and town houses of this famous port. It’s everything a Christmas market should be and more. Culinary highlights include regional specialities such as smoked fish, smoked sausage and schmalzkuchen (bite-size donuts). Legends are re-enacted on the fairytale stage, while carousels provide old-fashioned fairground thrills.
