Every year Rostock's historical centre is transformed by one of the largest and most beautiful Christmas markets in northern Germany. Where else does Father Christmas arrive by boat in the town harbour? Amid the brick churches and town houses of this port, there is a medieval Christmas market at St. Mary's Church and a popular fairytale stage at Neuer Markt square. Fairground rides on the Fishermen's Bastion are also heaps of fun.
