The Kulturbrauerei, Berlin's 'cultural brewery', is located in Prenzlauer Berg in the heart of the city. During the festive season, its two huge courtyards are transformed into a brightly illuminated Christmas world. This industrial complex from the 19th century, with its red and sandy-coloured bricks, cast-iron pillars and vaulted ceilings, provide an unusual backdrop for around 40 stalls and an old-fashioned carousels. Named after Lucia, the Swedish Queen of Lights, this Christmas market brings brightness and warmth inside the historical walls, nurturing dreams and a sense of yearning. Swedish log candles and an art installation entitled 'open-air overcoat heating' help you banish the cold: warmth is provided by an old-fashioned wood stove and there are cosy fur coats ready and pre-warmed for those who can still feel the chill. Every day at 8pm, visitors are treated to a programme of entertainment for all ages and Father Christmas is on hand between 5pm and 6pm. Children's time is from 4pm on weekends.
