Linderhof Palace

Linderhof Palace © DZT, Cowin
Magnificent Linderhof Palace stands on the site of Maximilian II's former hunting lodge. His son, Ludwig II, was dazzled by the opulence of the Bourbon court and aspired to create, at Linderhof, a replica of the palace and park of Versailles. It was not, however, until New Herrenchiemsee Palace was built that his dream was realised. Linderhof Palace is set in a magnificent garden and park designed by Carl von Effner. The linden tree, from which the palace takes its name, is now 300 years old.
