Hans Zender, born in Wiesbaden in 1936, is one of the great practitioners among modern composers. After studying music theory in Frankfurt am Main and Freiburg (Breisgau), Zender went on to work as a kapellmeister. He has held a number of prestigious conducting posts (including general music director in Kiel) and his compositions encompass virtually all genres, ranging from chamber music to grand opera.
