Luther/Chess
01-Jul-2010 - 31-Aug-2010 - Lutherstadt Wittenberg (Saxony-Anhalt)
Starting in the summer of 2010, Lutherstadt Wittenberg becomes the venue for a unique production, the »Luther/Chess« event, staged at a purpose-built open-air theatre.
The play presents the story of Martin Luther's life as a thrilling game on a black-and-white board of eight-by-eight squares that symbolise the world. The living chess pieces are led by Faust and Hamlet – two characters whose lives and legends are closely associated with Wittenberg and the time of the Reformation. The real hero, however, is Martin Luther.
