Bremerhaven: German Emigration Center
In the 19th century Bremerhaven was Germany's biggest port for emigration. To house these countless emigrants until their ships put out to sea, the city constructed the Emigrant House as early as 1849. In 2005 the successor building was inaugurated as one of the biggest experience museums on the topic of emigration. Special biographies accompany the visitors during the exhibition to illustrate motivations, conditions and consequences of the emigration. The Forum on Migration invites to a personal research for emigrated ancestors.
