Meura is home to one of the largest Haflinger studs in Europe. It has over 350 horses and offers daily guided tours as well as "taster rides".


Thuringia's sea
 
The best way to explore green Thuringia in the heart of Germany is by water. The two reservoirs on the river Saale, Hohenwarte Reservoir and Bleiloch Reservoir, are known as "Thuringia's sea".

Hohenwarte Reservoir has a surface area of seven square kilometres, making it a top favourite for water enthusiasts. A tour of the reservoir on the MS Hohenwarte provides an impression of the diversity of the surrounding landscape. An even more delightful way to explore "Thuringia's sea" is in a sailing dinghy - ideally in the company of a sailing instructor. The Hohenwarte watersports centre offers sailing and windsurfing lessons for all ages and abilities. All the necessary equipment is available to hire, as are kayaks and canoes. You can even go waterskiing on the reservoir. Special highlights for children are the Viking trip on Hohenwarte Reservoir and the pirate trip on Bleiloch Reservoir: costumed excursions full of fun, action and adventure.
