Lakes, the sea, coastal mudflats - what more could you want?
The East Frisian coast between the Dollart inlet and the Weser estuary is a beauty worthy of protection, a stronghold of biodiversity - and a popular holiday destination all rolled into one.
The long, grassy beach at Horumersiel and the sandy beach at Schillig are especially popular with families. It's high tide all day at the ffn-Nordseelagune beach, which opened at Burhave on the Butjadingen peninsula in 2007. Here there's a seawater "lagoon" cut off from the sea, flat sections of beach and a variety of attractions including a water adventure playground, a pirate island and a ship climbing frame - the perfect environment for children. When the actual tide has gone out, children and adults can explore the mudflats on a guided discovery tour. Most of the mudflat walks along the East Frisian coast and through the Lower Saxony Wattenmeer National Park depart from Nessmersiel. Away from the beach, the whole family can have fun at the Jaderpark - a zoo, adventure park and leisure park - in Jaderberg.
